America is enjoying a revival of the time-honored craft of artisan cheesemaking. Around the country, artisan cheesemakers are emerging with cheeses that are as good as or even better than European classics. Small scale, farmers’ market-focused, and regional, artisan cheesemakers are a growing presence in the cheese world. As Americans are increasingly focused on buying local food, we are discovering the artisanal cheeses produced in our own backyards. And cheesemaking is helping to make small farms a viable option and remake our rural landscape. This selection combines American artisanal cheeses from California to the Midwest to the Eastern shore, along with accompaniments from lands in between. Discover these new American masters with us! (2 lb cheese)

Petit Dejeuner, Rouge et Noir, Marin, Petaluma, CA, Cow’s Milk -
From America’s oldest operating cheese company just north of San Francisco, comes this fresh breakfast cheese. The small round is delicate and soft with a rich butter flavor. While traditionally served with breakfast, it is delicious as part of a cheese plate and on its own.

Big Ed’s, Saxon Homestead Creamery, Cleveland, WI, Cow’s Milk -
Named after the farmer’s enthusiastic father and made from the milk of happy cows that roam the Saxon Homestead pasture year round. This cheese is young and mild with a buttery body and great both for first time tasters and aficionados.

Grayson, Meadow Creek Dairy, Galax, VA, Raw Cow’s Milk -
Made in the style of the Italian classic, Taleggio, this washed rind cheese from Virginia’s Meadow Creek Dairy is a real treat for a cheese lover. The mildly pungent orange rind conceals a creamy, semi-soft cheese, ripe with tangy, rich, beefy and fruity notes.

Bayley Hazen Blue, Jasper Hill Farm, Greensboro, VT, Raw Cow’s Milk -
You can taste the terroir of northeast Vermont in this firm, dense blue from the Kehler brothers' family farm. The natural rind allows the flavors to concentrate as the cheese matures up to four months balancing the rich, beefy white paste with the pungent blue streaks. Firm, crumbly, creamy, nutty, savory flavors, made from morning milk.

Lancaster Duet, Farmstead First, Raymond, NE, Raw Cow’s and Raw Goat’s Milk -
The result of a collaboration between two farmstead producers in Nebraska, one bite of this mixed milk gouda style cheese will send your mouth on a flavor journey that begins with sweet hints of dried fruit and honey, becoming nutty and earthy with a creamy, tangy earthy finish.

Fig Almond Spread, The Gracious Gourmet, Bridgewater, CT -
Nancy Wekselbaum selects only the finest, all natural ingredients to create these delicious, cheese friendly spreads and tapenades.

Crispbreads, 34 Degrees, Denver, CO -
Delicate and carefully baked with subtle flavors that allow cheese to be the star, these crispbreads provide the perfect palette!
