Feel good about what you eat and where it comes from with this wonderful collection of delectables, each of which help to make the world a better place to live. From cheeses produced by urban kids in farms-as-classrooms, to vineyard owners who help build schools in Southern Africa, appreciate how fine food and libations can be BOTH scrumptious and socially responsible. In addition, a portion of each sale will be donated by Pastoral to Slow Food USA, which encourages us all to take more time, and enjoy our food more slowly and deliberately while savoring all that goes into producing it. Includes a culinary description along with a narrative about what sets these items/producers apart. (1.25 lb cheese)

Tarentaise, Spring Brook Farm, Reading, VT, Raw Cow’s Milk -
Inspired by the traditional cheeses of the French Alps, this complex, rich flavored cheese tastes like no other. Meticulous care produces its smooth, subtle nut flavor and complex finish that gracefully changes in each wheel with the weather and seasons. Free of synthetic flavors, additives, waxes, and preservatives, this cheese is as pure as it gets. Spring Brook runs a foundation that teaches kids about nutrition, economics, and science.

Queso de Mano, Haystack Mountain Goat Dairy, Longmont, CO, Raw Goat’s Milk -
This cheese took first place in its category at the ACS 2008 competition. Aged for four months, it's robust with a complex finish of toasted nuts and subtle hints of fresh herbs. The folks at Haystack Mountain have their goats at nearby Canyon City prison, where prisoners take care of the goats as part of an agricultural education program.

Gorgonzola Naturale, Lombardy, Italy, Cow’s Milk -
Made traditionally with morning and evening milk, Gorgonzola is one of the world’s finest cheeses. These large wheels of sweet, intense, creamy and slightly fudgy cheese are pierced with sharp, piquant blue-green veining that makes us cheer with pleasure.

Italian Jam, I Liveri, Faenza, Italy -
Stefania Callegari makes these jams in small batches using traditional recipes just like her grandmothers made, but imparts her favorite flavors like ginger and star anise. The jams are made with only ripe fruit and vegetables harvested from the Emilia Romagna region and never contain colorants, preservatives or pectin. (6.35 oz.)

Farmstead Honey, Prairie Fruits Farm, Champaign, IL -
This delicious honey comes from our friends at Prairie Fruit Farms. It is treated gently after harvesting and is never heated, to maintain its flavor and nutritional benefits. The flavor is delicate, but well-balanced, floral and herbaceous.

French Salted Caramels, Das Caramelini, Chicago, IL -
These salted caramels are inspired by those made in Brittany where Fleur De Sel is harvested. Katie Das’s interpretation blends traditional and modern ingredients yielding combinations like candied ginger and pistachio and orange and honey.

Organic Crackers, Potter’s Crackers, Madison, WI -
Every bite of these tasty whole-wheat crackers satisfies with great grain and butter flavors. Mixed and baked in a cracker kitchen by a small company from Madison, WI using only the best organic ingredients, sourced as locally as possible.
