The cheese and Porter pair well together. The hazelnut and macadamia nut notes in the cheese glide easily into the root beer/caramely flavors in the beer. The buttery texture of the cheese needs a little more acidity from the Porter to completely cut through the fat and leave the tongue singing.
These two together are happily married but the beer certainly wears the pants in the relationship. A little beer and a sizable hunk of cheese will make for the perfect combo. The cheese mellows out the beer, and some subtle fruity notes appear in the beer as well. The beer really brings out the earthiness of the cheese and the two together make the perfect fall segue into November. Turkey Day, here we come.
