Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread & Wine is an award-winning, European-inspired specialty food and wine retailer in Chicago. Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile all monthly statements and credit card transactions; match all merchant account payments in Quickbooks with information on bank reconciliations
  • Ensure that the monthly financial closing is executed in a timely manner; follow up on all issues related to discrepancies identified
  • Reconcile vendor statements; request missing invoices/credits from vendors; follow up on correspondence regarding missing/ late payments from vendors
  • Update Accounts Payable spreadsheet to reflect current cash flow, Fintech, etc.
  • Complete payroll activities including data entry, payroll processing, payment of tax liabilities, and reporting; process employee reimbursements; issue employee W-2s
  • Communicate with Receiving and Purchasing departments about invoice issues as needed
  • Review restaurant tips logs to create daily sales receipts; work with restaurant managers on corrections to tip logs
  • Generate and send vendor payments
  • Prepare cash and check deposits
  • File and process payments of all monthly, quarterly, and yearly taxes
  • Prepare and distribute monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial statements and reports
  • Other duties as assigned


  • 3-5 years experience working in accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll and payroll reports
  • Customer-service oriented; friendly communication in speaking and writing
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles
  • Attention to detail and the ability to organize complex information neatly and accurately
  • Extensive experience with data entry, record keeping, and computer operation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience in QuickBooks required
  • Strong understanding of business and income tax worksheets and computation
  • Ability to operate computer equipment, business equipment and other general office equipment, including telephones and printers
  • Position may require prolonged sitting, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting products and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, and repetitive hand and wrist motion

Job responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding customer service to delivery clients and to customers in Pastoral locations
  • Assist with preparation of food and catering trays
  • Assist with opening and/or closing procedures and keeping the store presence maintained

LINE COOKS: Appellation and Bar Pastoral 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Perform daily duties such as prep, cook, and clean up
  • Prepare foods according to recipes and perform prep work as assigned
  • Ensure that food quality, quantity, freshness, and presentation meet demands
  • Ensure that walk-ins, freezers, and all food prep areas are kept clean and organized
  • Prepare, handle, and store food in accordance with Chicago Health Department regulations
  • Other duties as assigned


  • 1 year experience working in a from scratch restaurant kitchen required; minimum 2 years in a food preparation position
  • Experience with preparing items for broiling, grilling, frying, and/or other cooking methods
  • Demonstrated knowledge of kitchen conduct; excellent knife skills
  • Open availability - able to work days and/or night shifts
  • Must obtain ServSafe/Food Handler license upon employment
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and withstand exposure to cold, heat, and water

Our Sandwich Bar Associates will focus on fulfillment of sandwich and salad orders, catering and fulfillment prep, and provide outstanding customer service to all guests.

Our Counter Sales Associates will deliver impeccable customer service while educating Pastoral's customers about the fascinating world of artisan cheese, charcuterie, bread, and wines.

Some other things that you will do:

  • answer phones; take sandwich and catering orders
  • assist with opening and closing procedures
  • replenish the floor with merchandise
  • assist with catering and gifting needs

  • Willingness to study and learn about our always-changing mix of artisan cheese, wine, charcuterie, bread and accompaniments
  • Prior experience in the food industry and with small-batch, artisan food is preferred
  • Proficient knife skills
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and throughout the holiday season
  • If not already certified, must obtain Food Handler license upon employment
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 30 pounds
